There are several areas of the island that are worth exploring. Puerto de la Cruz is a busy resort with a charming old town still retaining its working atmosphere. Las Lonjas is a cobbled pedestrian street, one of the city’s most picturesque spots. The Casa de Miranda, the Ventosa tower, the 16th century church of San Francisco and San Juan, and the 17th century Royal Customs house are all worth a visit if for no other reason than to see their unique architecture.

La Laguna, the old capital, is in the beautiful Aguere valley. It also has some great museums that inform tourists about the island’s history. The most outstanding buildings in this town are the Cathedral, the Santo Domingo Church, and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción.

What to see – by car hire

A hire car is almost a necessity on the island. To get from town to town, you should rely on your own transportation. There are also attractions on the other nearby islands that are connected by ferries. You can reserve a Tenerife hire car here.

There is much to see on Tenerife by hire car. The Villa de la Orotava lies in a banana plantation valley, with interesting old architecture. The Orotava mountains are a hiker’s paradise as is the Cañadas del Teide, a protected National Park area.
