What to do

There are some stunning medieval buildings right in the middle of town. The most notable of these is the Cathédral St-André, dating from the 12th century. The 15th century belfry, Tour Pey-Berland, is another and open to exploration.

There are some good museums in Bordeaux. Musée d'Aquitaine has some impressive prehistoric artifacts on display; while Musée des Beaux-Arts is over 200 years old and includes Flemish, Dutch, and Italian works from the 17th century. The Musée d'Histoire Naturelle (Natural History Museum), situated in the lovely Jardin Public, is also worth a visit.

You can't mention Bordeaux without thinking of wine. The Médoc is Bordeaux’s wine-growing region, stretching 100 km. in each direction and encompassing some well known vineyards.
