Bali holiday travel
Bali is a holiday island, one of many thousands of islands that go to make up Indonesia. Unlike the majority of Indonesia the predominant religion is Hinduism and animism which help give the island its mythical feel. Parts of the island are very crowded with large hotels while other parts are quiet, remote and maintain local customs.
Where to stay – hotels
Bali has been a popular destination with Australians for a long time now. Like many places originally it was a haunt for backpackers but over the years as travel has got easier there has been an increase in larger hotels and spa resorts. A good starting point for searching for Bali Hotels and Resorts is DirectRooms.com. Their site is easy to use and has very competitive rates
After touching down at Denpasar most people head for the main tourist areas of Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran. There are plenty of hotels in these areas. Visit the following site for hotels in Bali.
Bali hotels range from large international chains along the beachfront to budget accommodation down many of the backstreets and backpacker haunts. More on-line bookings of Bali based hotels.
What to do
Bali is an island with a vibrant nightlife, stunning sunsets and fascinating Hindu temples. There are also a number of festivals worth seeing.
It also has some excellent surf particularly the beaches of Kuta. Because of this it does attract a younger crowd and can be quiet busy at times. If you are after nightlife head for Kuta.
For a more relaxed feel the areas of Sanur and Nusa Dua are more appealing. The surf is mild and the quieter beaches are a great place to go snorkeling or take an evening stroll.
Jimbaran is also quieter than Kuta and has some of the best seafood restaurants on the island. The sunsets at Jimbaran are spectacular and definitely should be seen.
What to see – by car hire
Bali is a fairly large island and car hire is an ideal way to see the best of it. More Bali travel tips and information, are available by clicking on the link.
The island’s main town is Denpasar. It is home to some fascinating markets, temples and the Bali Provincial State Museum. There are also a number of festivals every year worth seeing.
Drive a hire car to Pura Ulun Danu Batur temple. It commands stunning views of Lake Batur and Mount Batur. Other day trips using Bali car hire include trips to Lovina Beach (another great beach). Bali is a place where you can also go volcano walking.
North of Denpasar there are local villages where life has changed little. This is also the direction to Bali Bird Park which is home to many species of tropical birds. But probably the most fascinating exhibits are the Komodo Dragons.
