What to do

This resort town is full of tourist shops, pubs, restaurants, and discotheques. The key attraction in Ayia Napa is its beaches. The city has some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Additionally, Ayia Napa Monastery is a well known landmark here. Built like a medieval castle, the monastery dates from 1500 AD.

There are a range of great water sports available. They include water-skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, pedal boats, motor boats, scooters, speedboats, and scuba diving.

The area is great for scuba diving because the waters surrounding the island are warm and clear, with even tides and visibility reaching 30 to 40 metres. Divers can visit underwater remains of ancient archaeological ruins and explore rock gardens filled with sponges.

What to see – by car hire

Taking a hire car around the island is well worth the expense. Not only does a hire car make it easy to get around in Ayia Napa, but also the neighboring towns. You can check out rates on Ayia Napa car hire here.

Some of the fun things to see by hire car include the town of Famagusta, Limassol, and the archaeological site of Curium. Famagusta (Gazimagusa) was at one time the richest city in the world but is now a decaying old town surrounded by a Venetian city wall. Here you can see the Cathedral of St Nicholas and Othello's Tower.

Limassol is a major port on the island and also serves as a popular tourist resort. It has a wide range of hotels, a hot nightlife, as well as taverns and restaurants. Curium, one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus, is also here and makes an interesting excursion by hire car. More on hire cars for Ayia Napa here.
