Acapulco draws a large quantity of international tourists every year who come for the city’s great beaches and exciting atmosphere. Besides plenty of water activities that are available, there is also a big nightlife scene with lots of dance clubs and bars to visit. What to do
The key attraction in Acapulco is the wonderful beaches, with Bahia de Acapulco forming a lovely arc. There are many different beaches to choose from which offer numerous water activities from skiing to kayaking.
The Museo Historico de Acapulco, rests at the site of the former Fuerto de San Diego and contains exhibits portraying the city from prehistoric times through Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821.
The cliff divers that perform at La Quebrada each day make a great attraction. They dive into the surf of an inlet that's just seven metres wide and four metres deep, and 40m below the cliffs.
Centro Internacional de Convivencia Infantil, a water sports park where you can watch dolphin, seal, and diving shows, also makes a fun day out, especially for the kids. The main attraction here is the aquarium, Magico Mundo Marino, offering a sea lion show, swimming pools, a toboggan, and scuba diving, as well as jet skis, inner tubes, and kayaks for rent.
What to see – by car hire
There is lots to see by hire car in and outside of Acapulco. You can reserve a hire car with most major car hire companies. It’s best to book a Acapulco hire car in advance.
Laguna de Tres Palos is a freshwater lagoon located about 32 km by hire car south of Acapulco. This superb destination is surrounded by tropical vegetation. This wilderness area is great for boat rides, fishing, or simply walking through the swamps. Not a far drive by hire car from here is Barra Vieja, a palm fringed beach with many restaurants offering tasty seafood dishes.
